Genopsys Patent Application Accepted by US Patent Office

SOQUEL, California , October 15, 2006 – Genopsys, Inc. has announced that the most significant claims of its latest patent application have been accepted by the US Patent Office. Formal granting of a patent related to this acceptance is expected before the end of the year.

“This patent will complement our existing IP portfolio,” states Eric Lietz, Ph.D., Genopsys Founder and President. “We are particularly pleased that the accepted claims add even more proprietary security to those portions of our portfolio that relate to the development of diagnostic and therapeutic antibodies,” Dr. Lietz added.

When granted, this will be the fourth patent for Genopsys. The company's core technology involves creating proteins with desired characteristics by engineering the genes that encode them. Similar methods are currently used to improve the function of genetically engineered proteins, such as the monoclonal antibodies that are increasingly popular weapons in the battle against a variety of chronic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and asthma.

It is anticipated that such optimization techniques will play an important role in the upcoming growth of the biopharmaceutical market. This market segment is expected to grow from around $60 billion in 2005 to $100 billion in 2010.

“These are exciting times for DME companies,” says Dr. Lietz. DME refers to Directed Molecular Evolution, which is the technology niche in which Genopsys operates.
